GTMS Visionply printable board claims to save cash and the planet

GTMS has launched a recyclable printed wooden hoarding, which it claims offers strong ecological and environmental benefits for a range of permanent and temporary graphics applications.

The Visionply range comprises plywood and MDF weatherproof substrates with a print receptive coating that can also be supplied in fire retardant grades up to class 3 and is suitable for retail, advertising, leisure, construction and signage applications.

The Waterlooville, Hampshire, UK-based firm prints the hoardings on its EFI Vutek flatbed UV-cured press.

According to GTMS director Dominik Short the printable and structural properties of the product mean that it can be used instead of a combination of ply and aluminium composite currently used when high quality graphics are needed for hoardings.

"This is not just shuttering ply, it’s a decent ply with a special coating for printing," said Short. "Compared to a combination of ply and composites the saving is at least 30%-40% and it offers photographic quality as good as your printer and is suitable for both long-term and short-term applications."

The boards can be recycled, or can even be re-used for a further environmental benefit, which he said supported the firm’s environmental ethos, which includes ISO 14001 accreditation.

Recent applications for Visionply include the Goodwood Vintage Festival in Sussex, UK and the Wildwood Mirror Maze in New Jersey, USA.
