NetRegs programme manager Richard Martin said: “More than 300 businesses were prosecuted in 2005 because they did not meet environmental regulations.
“Manufacturers may not realise the harm that they are doing by failing to comply. It is also important that businesses operate with a view to the long term.”
Users can search online by postcode, town and waste type, and will be directed to appropriate local waste management sites.
John Holbrow, environmental chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “NetRegs will help small businesses take vital steps towards avoiding the risk of fines for failing to comply.”
The launch marks the start of NetReg’s new campaigns to help small businesses find out about environmental legislation, comply with the regulations and avoid the risk of prosecution.
The site, which launched on Monday (19 March), can be found at www.netregs.gov.uk.
