The Uniliner S has a plate cylinder that is four across by one around combined with a blanket cylinder that is two around for stability and print quality. It is capable of 70,000 copies per hour.
Goss has taken its first order for the Uniliner S from The Border Mail, based in Victoria, Australia. Its press will consist of four shaftless four-high towers and a 2:3:3 jaw folder.
Goss senior vice president Dick Schultz said he believed that this would be the first of many orders for the new press.
"The new 8pp press system is ideally positioned between our Universal 50 4pp press and our top-of-the-range Colorliner 80 16pp press," he said.
The press will be installed at The Border Mail in 2003, which will become a world reference centre for the Uniliner S.
Goss said it focused on two types of newspaper printer when developing the Uniliner S: the regional or contract printer needing to add third-party print runs to their own existing schedules; and for those producing high-volume regular work that doesnt need to be completed during busy periods.
