SVTwo aims to become 'leading UK printer' with double Indigo 5500 buy

SVTwo is aiming to establish itself as a "leading printer" by making a digital investment in a pair of HP Indigo 5500 presses.

The London-based 30-staff company has taken delivery of two seven-colour machines to up its capacity for high-end retail work, such as brochures and direct mail campaigns.

Its new digital presses are running alongside two Heidelberg Speedmaster SM74 litho presses and two Xerox DocuColor digital printers.

The DocuColors output SVTwo's financial services work that includes printing and personalising insurance policy documents for a number of retail clients.

According to sales director Duncan Summers, the Indigo machines will both complement existing presses while handling a growing demand for short-run work.

He said: "On one side, run lengths are coming down and people want to save money so digital print is a way to do that.

"We've now got the ability to advise the customer on what’s the best route to take. Rather than them telling us 'here's a digital job', we'd rather give them a price for both. It's a complementary and flexible technology."

The HP Indigo 5500 can print at resolutions up to 800x1200dpi and at speeds of 68ppm in full colour mode and 136ppm in two-colour operation.

Summers said the investment in two machines rather than one shows that the company is "not just another printer".

"We want to establish ourselves as not just a leading printer in London, but a leading printer throughout the country," he added.
