"It's not like anything anybody would have seen before," said GAE's newly appointed digital colour specialist Jan Stojak. "It will take the industry by storm."
The firm will concentrate on the two core models within the French firm MGI's Meteor range: the 30 A4 ppm DP30 and the twin-engined 60 A4 ppm DP60.
They can be used to produce short-run work including direct mail, PoS, plastic cards and personalisation. Both machines use four-colour toner-based electro-photographic technology and can print on 64-256gsm paper and plastic substrates in sizes from 86x140mm to wide A3.
They are capable of duplex printing on stocks up to 150gsm. The 200lpi/1,800dpi presses are Pantone certified, using ICC/ICM, SWOP and Euroscale colour profiles with the RIP technology based on EFI's Fiery product.
They use feed systems similar to those in sheetfed presses, with an ultrasound sensor. Delivery is handled by a combination of jogging table and conveyor belts.
"These are meaty products that use technology that is simple and understandable," said Stojak.
"While I can't go into detail the running costs are also simple, it operates in a totally different manner from conventional machines it won't incur click charges."
The range comes with a series of finishing add-ons, which include: The UFA3 cutting, slitting, scoring and perforating unit; the PressCard PVC and Polycarbonate automatic laminator; and the PunchCard die-cutting unit.
The first Meteors will be available for shipping to the UK shortly after their unveiling at GAE's Ideal PrintHouse event, where prices will also be revealed.
The event will run from 18-22 July at the firm's base in Perivale, west London. The Meteor will be demonstrated on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 22 July.
