The LED UV Acuity 3200R joins the Fujifilm range of Acuity LED printers, which includes the Acuity LED 1600 II UV, launched in 2015, and the Acuity LED 1600, launched in 2012. It will be shown for the first time at Drupa on the Fujifilm stand and will be its only new wide-format product on display.
The 3200R builds on the success of the 1600 range but with extended print width and increased print speeds. It has been in production for about a year.
Fujifilm Europe graphic segment marketing manager Tudor Morgan said: "It came about from feedback we have had over the last two years on the Acuity LED 1600, which is a really nice printer but is restricted to 1.6m wide. This length is the bulk of what most people do anyway but sometimes people want to go that bit wider."
The machine can handle two reels simultaneously to a weight of 100kg and has a top speed of 110sqm/hr. It has eight ink channels as standard: cyan, magenta, yellow, black, light cyan, light magenta, white and clear, which utilise Fujifilm's Uvijet ink range to reproduce colours and gradations. The instant-curing UV inks allow for multi-layer printing and the clear ink means high-gloss spot varnish effects can be created.
LED curing has been one of the main success stories of the 1600 series. Morgan said: "One of the main benefits is the LED curing. Very few LED lights are ever changed, we know that from the LED 1600. Most people are using the same set-up they bought years ago, so it provides a very economic way of printing."
About eight to 10 machines will be manufactured to be shown on the Drupa stand, before the model is rolled out for commerical use around July.
Morgan added: "If it sells half as well as the 1600, I'll be delighted."
Fujifilm launched its Acuity Select 20 series at Fespa, which replaced its Acuity Advance Select Series. It also showed for the first time its Uvistar Hybrid 320, which will also be on show at Drupa, along with the first showing of its Onset X3 flatbed.
