The ex managing director of paper and board company Hedsorboard was made master, the equivalent of chairman, at the livery company in an inaugural ceremony last week.
He said he would use his new position to focus on expanding the membership organisation’s links with packaging and new media industries.
As well as key corporate members Powerflute and RPC, and with the appointment last year of former Tetra-Pak boss Hans Rausing KBE as honorary freeman and liveryman of Stationers’ Company, Dewey said he wanted to increase membership from the packaging sector.
He added: "Some of our traditional industries are declining so we have to look at new media, to broaden our appeal to the wider communications industry.
"The Stationers’ Company is not an organisation for revolution but evolution and we are adapting and changing.
"We are special as a livery company in that we continue to have a focus on the industries we serve, we are not just a dining club."
The livery company is currently reviewing its strategy and intends to publish a document setting out its aims and activity focus for the future, by the end of the year.
