There are currently 204 Flood Warnings throughout the UK, with nearly half of them (92) in the Midlands. East Anglia and the South West have 44 and 32 flood warnings respectively.
Collectively, the three regions also account for 58% of the 292 Flood Alerts in the UK, with the Midlands being responsible for 66, East Anglia 42 and the South West 60.
The Environment Agency categorises a Flood Warning as an area where "flooding is expected" and warns that "immediate action is required". The lesser Flood Alert warns that "flooding is possible" and advises people to "be prepared".
Other active Flood Warnings include the North East (17), South East (15), Wales (3) and North West (1), while Flood Alerts are also listed in the South East (51), North East (39), Wales (20) and the North West (14).
According to a statement from the Environment Agency, there is the likelihood of further significant flooding in Cornwall and Devon, with widespread disruption to roads and property flooding.
Rivers across Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire were said to be responding to rainfall, with significant flooding likely, while heavy rainfall in north east England and north Wales was expected to cause significant disruption today.
So far more than 800 homes have been flooded along with railway lines in the South West and parts of the M5.
The Environment Agency website has instructions on how to prepare a flood plan for your business and claims that most businesses can save up to 90% on the cost of lost stock and movable equipment by taking action to prepare for flooding.
