Flint Group and Sun Chemical announce price rises

Ink, blanket and pressroom chemicals are all set to increase in price as consumables giants Flint Group and Sun Chemical said they were under pressure from rising raw material costs.

Flint Group said raw material markets for the production of print consumables were volatile and that many key base materials had recently increased in price, some by as much as 25%.

It is expected costs will continue to accelerate in 2011 due to demand for rubber polymers, solvents and fabrics increasing, especially in Asia.

As a result, Flint Group’s marketing manager Peter Baird said the company had announced an increase for Anti-set off Spray Powder, which went up by 16p per kilo on 1 December.

Sun Chemical announced that it would increase the price of its heatset and publication gravure inks in Europe by €0.20–0.25 (£0.17-0.21) per kg.
