According to managing director Michael Burman, the London-based company needed to expand on the EVA binder it uses for everyday work.
He said: "For jobs that require greater longevity, we needed to add PUR to our service offering. We were also finding runs were getting shorter, so needed a system that could easily complete fast turnaround work.
"We produce high-quality work that has a long shelf life and use; PUR gives a stronger bind with a good lay-flat quality."
Burman added that the company had wanted to install a PUR machine in recent years, but the level of work it was previously seeing did not justify the investment.
He said: "We wanted a robust system, user-friendly enough to be set up quickly and easily by any one of our team when required, that could deliver a high quality finish.
"It has given our sales team the confidence to go out and sell short-run PUR perfect binding and as such we expect to see a good increase in demand."
FE Burman has operated for over 50 years with current customers, including Guardian Media Group. It uses two KBA Karats, a single-colour Heidelberg MO and an HP Indigo 7000.
