The Japan-headquartered manufacturer has confirmed that the servers of Seiko Epson, Epson Sales Japan Corporation, and Epson Taiwan Technology & Trading had been subject to the cyber breach.
However, it’s not currently clear what sort of information was accessed.
In a statement, Epson said: “With the assistance of external specialists, we have been investigating the scope of the affected area, regarding this matter.
“After confirming the unauthorised access, we immediately isolated the accessed systems as well as reported to relevant authorities. We have not yet confirmed the data leakage as of now.”
The firm also issued an apology and said: “We deeply apologise for any inconvenience and concern this may cause to our customers and stakeholders.”
Separately, Epson has posted its Q1 results for the three months to 30 June.
Sales rose by 6.9% to ¥336.6bn (£1.8bn), while operating profit jumped 14% to ¥22.5bn.
The Epson group of companies employs 74,464 people worldwide, with just over 13,000 of those working at the parent company.
It has 20 entities in Japan, and 62 overseas.
