Web-to-print software specialist for in-plant printers, ePrint, has completed an MBO, reshuffling its leadership team.

Under the mid-October deal, Steve Dobbs has stepped up to become managing director and co-owner of ePrint alongside Chris Camp, who has moved from managing director to chairman.

The previous co-owner of ePrint, Paul Clark – with whom Camp founded ePrint – has stepped back from the board but will continue to work at the company as its technical lead.

The company, which provides workflow software under its Skyline brand, is currently in the process of adapting to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model with cloud printing at its core, rather than in-house installations of in-plant printers.

“We’re taking the company in a broader direction,” Camp told Printweek.

“The clients we’re dealing with have a much broader spectrium of needs and requirements now, and while the conversation generally starts around web-to-print, often those requirements are much more business driven in a general sense, [such as] document management, document recoveries, that sort of thing. We’ve got a great lineup of software tools now to do that,” Camp said.

Dobbs joined ePrint in 2016 as a consultant, bringing “lots of fresh, innovative ideas”, he added.

“That played a central part in us repositioning ourselves, which we needed to do.”

Camp added that the business would be looking to expand, particularly in the US, where it has a solid foothold. The Welwyn Garden City-based team of six, plus freelance software developer support, turned over around £300,000 last year, with Camp eyeing up growth as the transfer to subscription-based models picks up steam.

Dobbs said: “Our future plans open up many new opportunities, and the new structure will accelerate new developments, reflecting the changes in the industry and the relationships that are key to our success, while ensuring the continued support and development for our many customers worldwide who are so important to us and provide the solid foundations on which the company is based.”
