Envelope workers go all out to aid injured colleague

Big-hearted staff at envelope over-printer Mekvale and sister companies are raising money for a colleague who was paralysed after a horrific accident on Christmas Day.

Senior account handler Sam Coe fell down three flights of stairs after losing her footing while gathering presents for her children from her loft. She will never walk again.

The four staff at Mekvale in the City of London are planning to raise £7,000 to help fund a specially designed titanium wheelchair.

Business development manager Stuart Barham: “Sam has worked for us for six years and, though lucky to be alive, will use a wheelchair for the rest of her life.”

Staff at Mekvale and sister companies Heritage Envelopes in Blackburn and Eagle Envelopes in Walsall will tackle various fundraising activities in the coming month.

These include a parachute jump from 15,000ft to be undertaken by Daniel Bolton, a commercial manager at Heritage Envelopes.

“Daniel has worked closely with Sam over the years and went to visit her in hospital shortly after her accident,” said Barham.

“She is currently in Stoke Mandeville Hospital but wants to be back at work by December and has already taken a journey into town to check out tubes and buses.

“Sam is incredibly positive, but unfortunately is getting virtually no support and is having to sell her house to relocate with her family within the space of a few months.

“She is is very well liked within the envelope industry. While this campaign has been running she has received tremendous support from customers and suppliers.”

The fundraising push has already clocked up over £6,000 with 21 days to the target date. Donations can be made here.
