Enfocus develops PDF subsets

Enfocus is developing subsets of PDF for specific sectors of the industry with European trade bodies under the banner of the Ghent PDF Workgroup.

There are no representatives from the UK, although a member of the PPA observed the last meeting.

The group’s next meeting is on 22 November, when it hopes to finalise its profiles for the delivery of magazine and newspaper adverts and for sheetfed and web commercial print jobs.

Applications to be a member or an observer should be addressed to Enfocus communications officer Saskia Desmet at saskia@enfocus.be.Enfocus terms its specifications PDF/X Plus, which it claims have the portability of a PDF and the reliability of TIFF/IT P1.

“PDF/X Plus offers the best of both worlds,” said Enfocus sales and marketing director Patrick Van Dam.

Enfocus has developed a pass4press profile for Instant PDF, allowing out-of-the-box creation of pass4press-compatible files.

The profile is based on Certified PDF, which is also used by Agfa, Heidelberg and Fuji.

Instant PDF costs £199 and is available from Xchange International.
