In the newly created role Burrows' key responsibilities are winning new business regionally and improving Encore’s branding. The firm is currently in the process of rebuilding its website.
Burrows said: “Once they had decided they were going to create a fully fledged packaging business, they needed to acquire people in certain roles. External sales was one of those areas, as well as internal account management and estimating."
Burrows has 13 years’ experience in the business development team of packaging firm Harrisons Packaging and also a degree in graphic design. He believes this will help him bring something new to the role.
He added: “When we are talking to people about new projects from inception there’s always an opportunity for me to put something into that to create a slightly different solution. It allows me to talk to marketing people as well as designers on a similar level and understand what they are trying to achieve.
“We often have to rein designers in a little bit but I’m very comfortable sitting down with people who have weird and wonderful ideas.”
Burrows joined the business in late March, around the same time Encore invested in new kit from Bobst. It offers a bespoke packaging production service from its 7,300sqm factory.
The company, based in Peterlee in the North East, was formed in 2014, but it moved to its new factory in County Durham last July.
