Employee fury over Multiplex demise

Another Bunyard company, Multiplex Techniques (UK), has come under fire from employees angered at the manner in which the firm ceased trading.

The staff, who were informed on 29 August, are owed two months' wages. Around 20 have not been paid redundancy and can't make a statutory claim because the Kent firm is not in administration.

One employee said: "It is disgusting. You shouldn't be allowed to treat people like this."

The news comes a week after ex-employees of SMS Howards Labels in Slough said they had been left in a similar position, unable to claim for statutory redundancy as the firm winds down.

Multiplex was bought out of administrative receivership by Myles and Ross Bunyard last year (PrintWeek, 17 August 2001). Both are directors of parent Multiplex Group.

Myles Bunyard is also a director of SMS Howard, operating from the same site as SMS Howards. Neither of the Bunyard brothers were available for comment as PrintWeek went to press.
