Emap repro review cuts suppliers by 10

Emap has reduced its roster of repro suppliers throughout its consumer, business and Peterborough titles from 17 firms to seven after completing the review it began at the start of the year.

Colour Systems in north London and Rival Colour in east London have won the consumer repro contracts, which comprise around 30 titles, including Emap Elan’s FHM and New Woman, as well as Emap Performance, with titles such as Q and Mojo.

On the business side, JJays in Southend and Marlin Imaging, part of Graphic Facilities in Sidcup, have become the key repro houses.

JJays took over the repro for Emap Maclaren in July, after the contract was pulled from existing supplier Facsimile Graphics due to “concerns as to its financial position” (see p8).

The four companies will be on rolling, six-month review contracts.

The remaining three suppliers are Final Repro, G&E 2000 and Guildenburgh. These suppliers to Emap’s Peterborough titles will be subject to a separate review period.

Emap group production director Andy Franks said: “With our business title suppliers now decided, it marks the end of our repro review. We can now concentrate on our review of print suppliers. It’s a bit like painting the Forth Bridge.”

Around 27 companies are in the print review, with key suppliers, such as St Ives, already featuring on the approved list.

All of Emap’s existing printers, as well as companies it has worked with in the past, are under consideration. A final decision will be made before the end of September.
