The Nottingham-based firm installed a Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14000 with IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Care unit last month.
It joins three existing Xerox devices and is EDWPS’ first KM device.
“We were looking for another device to grow our capacity for high quality short- to medium-run work where our volumes have been growing,” said managing director Lance Hill.
“Konica Minolta just ticked all the boxes. It was installed in January and has hit the ground running – it uses the same Fiery frontend as our existing printers so it’s been pretty seamless from an operator point-of-view.”
Hill said the C14000’s ability to handle a broad range of paper types up to 450gsm and its 900mm long-sheet capability were attractive. Print speed is up to 140ppm, nearly 40% faster than its older colour toner device.
“It has four trays and you can literally press a button and switch to another stock. We could be running 20 different jobs a day so that’s a key feature,” he added.
“The IQ-501 scans every sheet for quality control and I think it’s totally unique in the market.”
Hill described the leasing and click charge rate as “very competitive”.
EDWPS employs 28 and offers a range of services including print, direct mail, hybrid mail and multi-channel marketing. Last year it launched outsourcing and print management wing Eight Plus.
“2022 was a good year. The combined businesses broke through £12m sales, and Eight Days exceeded its budget too,” Hill said.
The business is Printweek’s reigning SME of the Year and is also a finalist in the upcoming Printweek Awards 2023, which take place on 2 March.
