The device, which was purchased from Morgana and Watkiss dealer CLC Presentation Systems, was installed around two months ago and joins an existing Watkiss Vario machine.

Director Jon Huffer said: “The new machine has had an impact on producing booklets with heavier covers and things like menus. It saves a lot of time with creasing.

“The Watkiss Vario was having problems with heavier stocks and with certain digitally printed papers.

“The new machine is capable of handling a much wider range of substrates, and can also produce the square-backed finish – something that customers have been very impressed with.

“It helps us to produce a booklet that doesn’t gape open and mimics the fold of a perfect-bound booklet, and is reasonably swift in how it does it.”

The PowerSquare 160 enables users to produce booklets from a wide range of sheet sizes and materials, including A4 landscape format and heavy cover stocks. Automatic set thickness sensing ensures optimum book quality and optional accessories are available for full bleed trimming and book stacking.

“Our typical product will be turning SRA4 sheets (mixed weights) into an A5 sized booklet, but we are also looking forward to promoting the ability to produce A4 landscape publications,” said Huffer.

“That’s the sort of printed product that can stand out and look different.”

The Edinburgh Copyshop runs small-format digital printers from Konica Minolta, Xerox and Canon, wide-format machines from Canon and HP and a raft of other finishing kit.

The £700,000-turnover business works from 418sqm premises in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town and offers printing, graphic design and photocopying to mainly B2B clients including local offices and restaurants.
