The Norwich-based specialist printer, which supplies print that incorporates decorative effects such as hot foiling, blind foil embossing, blind embossing and die-cutting, took delivery of the new machine in January.
Supplied by Konica Minolta reseller BBT Group, which has an office in Norwich, the device will be run alongside an existing Ricoh press at Dynamic until October, when the contract on that machine runs out.
Managing director Sarah Smith bought the business last year following a 30-year career working in the paper industry as a sales rep for various merchants.
“Dynamic were a customer of mine for 20-odd years and I knew they were different, which is why I bought the company,” she said.
“They approached me three years ago because I had given them some new ideas over the years which they had marketed and been successful with. The previous owner's words to me were 'we couldn't think of anyone more suited for this type of business - you're passionate, you love to be different and you love experimenting'.
“I looked at it but at the time I didn’t want it. But two years later my life had changed personally, my child had grown up and I needed a new challenge. I’ve spent 30 years telling printers what to do or trying to get them to see the light in different areas, and I wanted to do it for myself now.”
Smith said three-staff Dynamic’s turnover had dropped back over the past few years prior to her acquisition of the company, but she is hopeful the new Konica Minolta machine will drive an increase in sales, which are projected at around £200,000 for this year.
Production director Mark Critten added: “The new press gives us the ability to print up to 700x330mm on substrates up to 350gsm duplex. Our customers are very pleased to have these increased options.
“In addition, registration, both front and back, is spot-on across the sheet. As an added bonus, colour and consistency across the sheet is much improved. We are very pleased with the flexibility that the new press gives us.”
Dynamic Print also operates a raft of finishing kit for laminating, stitching, wire-binding and punching. The business serves a broad spectrum of clients across East Anglia, the rest of the UK and Europe including graphic designers, libraries and universities.
