Durst opens Austrian R&D facility

Durst has opened its inkjet technology research centre at its Lienz site in Austria.

Inside the crystal-shaped building are 800sqm of laboratories and 1,200sqm of offices, which are used by 12 scientists including chemists, physicists, biologists and specialists in fluid mechanics and electronics.

Research at the facility includes ink development and assessing inkjet printhead technology from third-party vendors including Dimatix, Kyocera and Ricoh.

In addition to research and development work, the lab is also used to check the quality of all the inks that Durst ships out to customers.

Several research projects are also being carried out in conjunction with European universities at the site. Pure research includes work in tissue engineering, solar energy, packaging and functional textiles.
