According to the company, it has been inundated with requests for a high-quality short-run laminator, without the associated costs of a high- volume machine.
Redditch-based D&K has responded with the Galaxy laminator, which it said would be ideal for laminating products such as loyalty and membership cards.
The industrial roll-fed, hot roller encapsulation machine is estimated to cost around £8,500. It can handle widths up to 540mm and is capable of speeds of up to 5m a minute. But D&K UK sales manager John Hancock said speed wasn’t the key to the machine’s saleability.
“The quality that can be produced on the machine makes it ideal for short runs. I envisage short- and medium- run in-house printers being interested in this machine,” he said.
“What we have developed is a cross between the single- sided Pegasus and a Nova encapsulator. A number of people have asked for a machine like this and are coming to see it at DPW.”
Hancock said that although the machine was essentially hand-fed, a feeder and/or cutter could be added to make it completely automated.
