Arriving in the first week of June, the Latex replaced two HP Scitexes, an LX850 and an FB500, at the firm’s Croydon print facility. It will focus on an output of POS, retail stands, permanent signage and more for clients from start-ups to blue-chip companies.
The 2.5m-wide flatbed/roll-to-roll hybrid joins a wide array of HP systems, including a DesignJet Z6200 and two HP Latex 360 roll-to-roll printers.
Production manager Giles Fletcher said: “The R2000 Plus is a machine that ticks all the boxes; it does everything we already did but better and faster.
“We had a look at all the usual players such as SwissQprint and Vutek, but it is the flexibility of changing from roll-to-roll to board, as well as the green, odourless benefits of the Latex technology that drew us to this.
“I have found the quality and vibrancy of the print to be like nothing I have ever seen before and the service we get from HP has been excellent, which all allows us to pass the benefits to clients we have been dealing with for years in terms of pricing and turnaround times.”
HP’s Latex R2000 Plus prints at speeds from 45-100sqm/hr through eight printheads running CMYK, light cyan, light magenta, HP Latex overcoat, HP Latex optimiser and white. It is capable of printing onto substrates up to 45mm thick.
It will run at Discount Displays using Onyx Thrive workflow software, with both products supplied by Papergraphics in Crawley.
A 20-staff outfit, Discount Displays operates a 650sqm print facility in Croydon, south London, while also running a 740sqm warehouse and an administrative office in Sussex.
