DCL Print hires new managing director for Wotton-under-Edge site

Trade printer DCL Print has appointed Ben Turner as managing director of its site in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire.

Turner started in the role, which has been vacant for the past three years, on 1 September.

“The Wotton-under-Edge site has been run from Crawley as a plant but the company wanted somebody to take the site on to enable it to become a real centre in its own right,” said Turner.

Turner started his print career with Williams Lea in the mid 1980s and was more recently managing director of London-based performing arts printer Cantate for a number of years.

He was also previously a director of the BPIF.

After a break from print of seven years, during which time he ran a small specialist holiday company with his wife, Turner has returned to the industry by re-joining former colleague Simon Smode, group managing director of DCL Print. Smode and Turner had worked together at MoDo Paper Merchants in the 1990s.

“I am thrilled to be back in print and working with Simon again. To begin with, we’re looking at the basic issues of sales and production and making sure that our customers know the full range of what the group can produce,” said Turner.

“Investment is also a key strategy and the group has grown significantly in firepower recently. We’ve just installed a new Xerox 700 at our site and we’re installing a new Muller Martini eight-colour press later this month.

“That investment will boost our productivity and we also seem to be getting more long-run cut-sheet work recently. This press will give us greater clarity and expertise in that area.”

The group has also installed a Fujifilm Acuity 1600 LED and a Xerox iGen 150 at its Crawley site this year.

DCL Print operates in the transactional mailing, security, label, commercial and business forms sectors. It has around 75 staff across its two sites and a turnover of around £6m.
