Day International cuts VOCs by 90% with Varn press wash

Day International's Varn brand has unveiled a press wash that it has claimed cuts volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used to clean the inks from blankets and rollers by up to 90%.

The MicroKleen press wash cleans by encapsulating the ink, which allows the press operator to easily wipe it away using water. It is said to be a safe and effective alternative to traditional washes.

Varn said MicroKleen allowed the press to get back to colour immediately following the wash with virtually no paper waste.

It also said the product was more economical than other washes as it required less liquid than alternative press cleaning solutions.

Jeff Pieper, Day International chemical products division senior vice president, said MicroKleen was "the latest chapter in our long history of product innovation", which will help cut the carbon footprint of printer's operations.
