The digital mailing specialist achieved the certification on 10 June. Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, the achievement demonstrates that Datagraphic meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value.
Datagraphic CEO Glyn King said: “At the heart of Datagraphic are a team of passionate people, who for years have been working to make our business more sustainable for the benefits of people, the planet, communities and our partners.
“In more recent years, we have formalised our efforts in a far-reaching Social Impact Strategy and built initiatives that encourage us to do more and others to join us.”
To achieve certification, Datagraphic had to undergo a rigorous assessment process administered by B Lab to measure and verify several impact areas, including the environment, clients, community, and employees.
Datagraphic achieved a score of 89.5 points in the B Impact Assessment, providing evidence of responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency.
The company said that while it had made a conscious effort to operate as an environmentally and socially responsible business since its inception, it has achieved several notable milestones in recent years, including having its carbon reduction targets approved and validated by SBTi, becoming a signatory of The Climate Pledge, and aligning operations with the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
Through B Corp status, it has now become part of the Better Business Act, a coalition of over 2,000 businesses campaigning for a change to the law that would see all companies in the UK align their long-term interests with those of wider society and the environment.
“Achieving B Corp certification is a huge recognition for Datagraphic. The rigorous process has demonstrated that every decision we make balances profit and purpose and considers the social impact of how we operate,” said King.
“We are delighted to have joined the B Corp community alongside other like-minded organisations.”
Datagraphic is now part of a growing community of over 8,000 businesses globally that have been certified as B Corps.
Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, commented: “Welcoming Datagraphic to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and will help spread the notion that success in business is as much about people and planet as it is profit.”
Last month it was revealed that Datagraphic had invested over £2m in Canon’s ColorStream 8133 and VarioPrint iX3200 inkjet printers to accelerate its next phase of growth.
With a 3,700sqm Rugby production centre, which handles all outbound production, and a head office in Chesterfield, Datagraphic also operates Riso envelope overprinting kit, a Morgan 904 colour web press, specialist mailing equipment from Bowe, Kern and Neopost (now Quadient), and a wide range of finishing kit from Morgana, KAS, Polar, Kern and more.
Working with the public sector, financial services businesses and larger enterprises, Datagraphic employs 105 staff across both sites.
