Perth-based Danscot has opted for the five-colour machine, which was launched at Drupa last year, to increase the number of coating and finishing effects on its digitally-printed work.
According to the company, which is the digital print arm of UKOffice4less office supplies group, it chose the light production Canon machine as a colour output device to give an added edge to its print work.
Mary Wallace, principal director at Danscot Print, said the C1+ has allowed the printer to bring a level of coating finishing work in-house thanks to the clear fifth colour offered on the machine.
She added: "It’s crucial for us to be able to offer added-value to our customers wherever we can. We have a lot of clients in the tourism industry so the additional clear toner available really offers something different."
The family-run business, established in 1975, has been producing short-run catalogues, leaflets and brochures, in addition to photobooks and large-format work.
Danscot has benefited from the gloss, matt and metallic finishing effects available on the C1+ machine, which joins a Canon CLC5151 and a Canon iR7086 at the seven-staff business.
Wallace said: "Customers come to us for 5,000 run jobs, not 50,000. Regardless, we aim to offer a service that our customers want.
"We're always looking at new angles and how we can improve the business, which is where the Canon C1+ came in. We also now plan to look at web-to-print and data services to further expand that," she added.
Last year, Kall Kwik Camberley was unveiled as the UK trial site for Canon's imagePress C1+.
