Creo delays SP tool

Creo has delayed the launch of its Sprayable Polymer (SP) on-press imaging technology, and it is unclear whether a press based on SP will be shown at Drupa 2004.

Presses using SP were slated to ship in 2003, but the project has been shelved for at least a year, according to Creo chief executive Amos Michelson.

"With the difficult environment right now, we couldn't get the press manufacturer to commit the necessary cash," said Michelson.

Although Creo has not revealed which press manufacturers it is working with, Komori committed to use SP as soon as it was available, while Heidelberg rejected SP as a viable technology.

As a result of the delay Agfa has put development of its LiteSpeed SP coating on hold.
