Coxon, together with his son Harry who handles production at Pensord Digital, Fujifilm Europe head of offset Chris Broadhurst and long-standing friend Alun Brace completed their Big Race Golf Challenge at Creigiau Golf Club near Cardiff on Monday (12 July).
The challenge in aid of Prostate Cancer UK was inspired by Coxon’s father-in-law who is currently receiving palliative care for the disease.
Coxon said: “I’ve been very blessed to have a father-in-law who I could call my friend. We enjoyed many of the same things and when cricket or rugby days were being planned he’d be the first name on the list being fun, knowledgeable and always first to the bar.
“The rapid deterioration of his health over the past few weeks has been staggering. His passion and addiction to the Six Nations Rugby in February and March is now a distant memory and the Lion’s tour is passing him by and his other passion the Ryder Cup will likely come too late.”
Coxon said he hoped to help raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis of the condition, which is treatable if caught in time.
The golf team were up in the early hours of 12 July ready to tee off at 4:57am. They completed 72 holes over four rounds, pushed their golf trollies for 24 miles, took more than 51,000 steps and made 1,486 shots in total, with the endeavour completed by 9.05pm.
These are the fundraising links for Darren and Harry Coxon.
The Big Golf Race 2021 has been organised by Prostate Cancer UK with the option for players to choose between the Marathon (four rounds of golf in one day) or Half Marathon (two rounds).
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with more than 47,500 diagnosed every year.
