The new press, which replaces a two-colour SM 52, arrives later this month and will allow the council print department to bring a large part of its colour work back in-house.
John Metcalfe, head of reprographics and printing services at the council, said: "To date we have been limited to spot colour and a limited amount of full colour. Now we can handle more work and have greater control with the same manning."
He added that the council had identified around £100,000 worth of cost savings it expects to achieve from an annual outsourcing bill of £250,000.
The council's print department will use the new press to handle work for its adult community services and schools sectors, producing a range of brochures and binders.
It also handles print for seven district councils, several parish councils and some charities.
Metcalfe also expects the new press, which will run with a single-colour GTO and Konica Minolta digital print equipment, to cut delivery time on the council's print work.
The council's reprographics and printing service has been in operation in its present form since 1991 and employs 12 staff.
