Publisher Hearst Magazines UK has announced a raft of changes at the brand, as part of a multimillion-pound investment.
The format of the printed magazine will be standardised at the new size of 260x200mm, which Hearst described as “unique”. Previously the glossy women’s monthly was available in two sizes, including a travel-sized option.
A spokesman said: “This move means there will now just be one midi size format, which we believe will appeal to buyers of both the previous formats. It’s a slightly wider ratio than previously to give more of a premium feel.”
Polestar Chantry will continue to print the title, which had a UK and Ireland print circulation of 235,327 in the latest ABC report.
The new format goes live with the October issue, on sale today (2 September).
Alongside a number of digital media initiatives, including a UK Snapchat Discover channel, the publisher is also increasing the routes to market for the physical magazine.
It plans monthly ‘pick up’ and ‘pop up’ outlets in venues such as shopping centres, gyms and cinemas.
Hearst has also set up systems to allow readers to purchase single copies from the Cosmopolitan website and from the brand’s Facebook page.
"The single issue sales link on Facebook will direct the customer to a Hearstmags Cosmopolitan landing page where they can purchase copies by entering a valid debit or credit card. CDS Global will then package the orders on a daily basis and pass on to COMAG Forward to fulfil each order," the spokesman explained.
The publisher said its other brands could follow suit if the new approach and routes to market prove successful for Cosmo.
