Netherlands headquartered print group Em. de Jong has acquired a majority stake in German web printer Jungfer Druckerei und Verlag.
Jungfer runs nine web presses and prints around 130,000 tonnes of paper a year. Family-owned Em. de Jong and its five subsidiaries, including Mercator Press in Belgium, runs 21 web presses including two 96pp models as well as sheetfed and digital printing.
The combined group employs 1,300 people and produces some 480,000 tonnes of output per year.
It specialises in doordrops and retail flyers and claims a market-leading position in that part of the market.
“We are completely dedicated to print for retail and large-volume door drops, and we do a lot of work for big UK retailers and print management companies,” explained sales director Martijn Kammeijer.
The firm is now aiming to grow its share of the UK market with the appointment of Craig Hall as UK sales manager. He previously worked at YM Group and Thijsen Media Group.
“I’ve been involved with leaflets and inline work for most of my career, so this is a great fit,” Hall said. “Ten of the presses in the group are short-grain and there’s a shortage of that sort of capacity in the UK. It is becoming a very popular option for sub-A4 and square-shaped work because everyone is looking for efficiencies at the moment.”
Hall took up his new role at the beginning of June.
Em. de Jong was founded in 1906 and has the status of a ‘Royal’ company in the Netherlands due to being established for more than 100 years.
