Collective Colour stems water use by 90% with Fujifilm 'ZAC' buy

Collective Colour has become the first UK printer to install Fujifilm's FLH-Z 125 "ZAC" processor with optional water recirculation unit.

The Essex-based printer, which installed the ZAC processor following its relocation from the London 2012 Olympic site, has subsequently reduced its water consumption by 90%, from around 250,000 litres a year to just 25,000 litres.

Gary Law, director at Collective Colour, highlighted the cost savings and environmental benefits of the investment, which include a 20% reduction in chemistry on top of the water savings.

He said: "With Fuji's ZAC processor and additional water recirculation unit giving us a 90% saving in water used – from an average of 250,000 litres a year to 25,000 litres a year – we are not only making a significant impact on our environmental footprint, but are also saving a considerable amount of money on our monthly water bill."

Fujifilm's FLH-Z 125 plate processor, which is designed primarily for use with the manufacturer's Brillia HD LH-PJE thermal plates, incorporates the latest intelligent ZAC microprocessor control system that helps to achieve consistent, high-quality plate production whilst cutting down on chemistry usage.

Fujifilm Graphic Systems UK marketing manager Graham Leeson said that more printers were looking to the "relatively small investment" of the ZAC processor in order to make significant cost savings in their business.

He added: "In today's climate, such a large reduction in water and chemistry and the associated costs is extremely important, especially as printers' margins continue to be squeezed."
