CDS completes major investment programme at Aylesbury site

Print and mailing giant Corporate Document Services (CDS) has rounded off a major investment programme at its flagship Aylesbury site with the purchase of a new Morgana DigiCoater.

The Leeds-headquartered £25m-turnover company has added the DigiCoater to two new Océ 6250 Varioprints, a Horizon BQ270 perfect binder and a new EBA programmable guillotine, which were purchased in 2008.

CDS's new machine is the micro format UV coater. It was purchased to reduce the supply chain and offers an alternative to lamination. The company uses it on digital runs, ranging from 50 to more than 1,000 sheets.

Adrian Brown, general manager at the Aylesbury site, said: "It gives us a choice of matt or gloss finishes and it was important for us that the output from the unit is both recyclable and biodegradable.

"We also liked the fact that compared to other systems, the DigiCoater has a very small carbon footprint, which helps us to achieve our own emission reduction targets."

CDS offers print management services and specialises in dealing with the public sector, but handles work for the private and third sectors also. Its contracts include a £60m three-year contract with the Ministry of Defence.

The company was founded in 1994 starting out with around 57 staff. It has maintained a policy of adding a new facility for each of the major contracts it wins and currently operates nine locations and employs 200 staff.

This year could see further sites built as the company is currently bidding on a number of "very large" contracts.
