Cats Solutions builds bespoke site for latest council contract

Digital printer Cats Solutions has opened a new finishing and print facility after winning its first county council contract.

Cats Solutions has unveiled its new site in Truro, Cornwall, to service a contract it has won to provide print for Cornwall County Council.

To ensure that all the  work can be handled in-house for a quick turnaround, Cats Solutions has also purchased an Ideal 5221-05EP guillotine (pictured), Stago HM6 and H18T stapling machines, as well as a Stago PB2015S2 twin spindle paper drilling machine, a Plockmatic 61 bookletmaker, a PF220 folding machine and a GBC 111 heavy duty punch.

The new machines will run alongside Canon and Xerox printing equipment. Total investment in the new facility came to £100,000.

Cats Solutions’ new facility is off-site, although the council specified that it had to be within three miles of its site for quick print runs.

Although the site was set up specifically for Cornwall County Council, Cats Solutions retains ownership, and managing director Greg Smith said the company would use the factory to print other work.

He said: “This is our first council job. We turned the site around incredibly quickly – we only won the contract at the end of November.”

The firm also had to adapt to the local council’s environmental demands.

Smith added: “They are quite green down there, so we will be making sure we are using recycled paper. We have also brought in an electric delivery car specifically for this contract.”

This latest investment allows Cats Solutions to continue its long-established relationship with Total PFS.
Cats production director Martyn Jarret said: “We’ve worked with Total PFS for 12 years now and have grown our business together, so there wasn’t any question of going anywhere else for our finishing equipment.”

With eight new staff at the Truro site, the company’s total workforce, including London and Swindon,
is  now 130.
