Catalent extends pharmaceutical options with 10-colour KBA investment

Catalent Pharma Solutions has boosted its expansion into the UK and European market by investing in a 10-colour KBA press for its printed components business.

The pharmaceutical company will take delivery of the Rapida 106 machine at its Dublin facility in June, as a result of ongoing investment in the plant.

The new KBA will be used to produce packaging for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, as well as work for the IT retail market.

Catalent's new press can print at speeds up to 15,000sph and features KBA's QualiTronic full-sheet scanning system. This involves using a camera to scan each sheet to seek out inconsistencies or deviations on the image.

Victor Dixon, vice president and general manager of printed component within Catalent Pharma Solutions, said: "The KBA press brings a variety of innovative capabilities specifically tailored to meet the changing needs of our customer base.

"It introduces a higher standard in pharmaceutical carton supply and follows our investment in similar technology upgrades at our plants in the US and Puerto Rico."
