‘Captain Tom’ has now raised more than £29m for NHS Charities Together, with donations still coming in to his JustGiving page.
His 100th birthday is on Thursday (30 April), and all post handled by Royal Mail up until this Friday will carry the special celebratory postmark.
The war veteran had originally aimed to raise £1,000 by walking 100 lengths of his garden before his landmark birthday. His story went viral and donations have come in from all over the world.
Captain Tom has also proved to be a one-man boost to the greetings card industry – Royal Mail has also had to set up special sorting facilities to deal with the number of birthday cards being sent to him, with more than 100,000 now received.
