The Canterbury-based digital printer has also broken into variable data printing with the Xerox machine, which has replaced an existing Xerox 5252, producing targeted mailings for a major department store.
Established in 1981, Parkers is now an all-digital house after migrating from sheet-fed litho four years ago.
Managing director Howard Smith said the 5000AP has helped grow short-run book printing to make up 25% of its work and provide a "clear path to progress our business".
In addition to full-colour on-demand books, the three-staff company produces personalised educational prospectuses for clients including the local university, schools and retailers.
According to Smith, the printer handles average book runs from one copy up to 20 and recently completed a 32,000 mail run. He said the company is maximising revenues and growing sales by mixing the types of jobs it carries out.
"Digital and litho print are complementary technologies. We carry out other company's digital requirements that are outsourced to us and they work in harmony," Smith added.
In addition to book and prospectus printing, Parkers also produces brochures, books, magazines, promotional fliers and personalised direct mail on the 5000AP, which can print at speeds of 50ppm and handle stocks up to 300gsm.
