Installed in mid-June, the machine replaced four Canon Colorstream 10000 toner systems at the Northampton outfit. While the old machines were capable of printing full-colour, their capacity for the work was much lower than in mono, while the ColorStream offers equal capacity for both types of print.
Carrying out almost entirely transactional print applications, Business Recovery took on the secondhand device directly from Canon after consideration of the market had brought the business back to its regular supplier.
Managing director Mark Allan said: “I tentatively looked around the market and spoke to our clients in the trade who run different machines, but none of them had the level of satisfaction that we get from Canon. They understand our business model and are always on hand to help with requests from our clients.
“We had gotten away with lower colour capacity for a long time, but about a year ago we started seeing the demand go up and we had to upgrade our capabilities.
“Now our clients can go to their clients with the confidence that even in the midst of a disaster they can still supply full-colour print where needed – the option is there with us.”
Canon’s Océ ColorStream 3900 is able to produce up to 1,700 A4 colour images/minute. It prints at resolutions up to 1,200dpi.
A high-volume inkjet system, its mono and colour capacities are more than 50,000sph A4, bringing Business Recovery’s colour capacity up from circa 800,000 prints per day to 3 million.
Running 21 separate print engines and 20 inserting lines on its 3,350sqm premises, £2m-turnover Business Recovery employs 12 members of staff. It provides disaster recovery and overflow services to a roster of print companies including Williams Lea Tag and Paragon.
With hopes of attracting additional business from clients current and new, Allan said he may look to install a second ColorStream in the future.
