BT&D gets ISO 14001 in its first year

Book printer Butler, Tanner & Dennis (BT&D) has achieved IS0 14001 in its first year of trading after it was bought out of administration.

The Frome, Somerset-based company said it established its Environmental Management System in August 2008, which involved each department conducting an audit of its environmental impact.

Vegetable-based inks have been introduced, as has an extraction system that removes high-grade waste for bulk recycling, among other initiatives.

Managing director Kevin Sarney said: "Since opening in August 2008, BT&D has been committed to reducing its impact on the local and global environment.

"To be awarded the ISO14001 within our first year of trading is a fantastic achievement."

The company also works with the BPIF'S carbon calculator through the Carbon Neutrality Project, and in August 2009, it achieved FSC and PEFC accreditation.

Butler and Tanner reopened for business as Butler, Tanner & Dennis (BT&D), in August 2008, following the last-minute buyout by media entrepreneur Felix Dennis.
