The BPIF scooped the prize, in a ceremony in London on 6 July, over nominees including the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) and the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF).
BPIF marketing director Amy Hutchinson said: “We are absolutely delighted. A lot of work went into these awards.
“What we wanted to show is that print isn’t necessarily competing with digital, it can work with it and that it is all about printers and publishers and designers being aware of how everyone can work so well together, rather than it being either-or.”
The winning event was praised in part for its unique Book of the Night, which was also shortlisted for Publication of the Year.
The book used augmented reality software from Documobi to show videos of each of the nominated books. When attendees first arrived at the ceremony at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel, Knightsbridge, they were asked to download an app and were then shown a video of host, comedian Mark Watson, explaining how the night would work.
Each page in the Book of the Night could then be scanned and led through on the app to a video of the nominated books’ content.
Hutchinson added: “In previous years we found a lot of the books that are entered are stunning but when you take a photo of them the front cover isn’t necessarily the most stunning bit. We thought if we did a video then really we’re not only giving the publishers the most exposure but also showing the books in their full glory.”
On a personal level, Hutchinson has also been nominated for a Young Stationers’ Award (YSA) by BPIF finance director Peter Allen. Kodak digital marketing intern Katie Wright has also been given a nod.
Hutchinson said: “I’m delighted. Obviously it would be fantastic to win but I’m just quite thrilled to be nominated. I read the other nominated names and was like ‘wow, that’s some stiff competition’."
Having started at the BPIF as an intern in 2010, Hutchinson worked as a marketing assistant and also as editor of the BPIF's Inprint magazine before being promoted to marketing director.
Other YSA nominees include Buzzfeed investigations editor Heidi Blake and Ernst and Young global media relations associate director William Brewster.
Last year's winner was playwright and columnist Angela Clarke. The ceremony will take place at Stationers Hall on Monday 18 July.
This year’s BBDPAs will take place on 10 November at the Jumeirah, with nominations closing on 15 July. In April, BPIF chief executive Charles Jarrold said he expected more entries than last year for this year's awards.
