BPIF, GPMU body to obtain DTI funding

Partnership at Work, the joint project from the BPIF and GPMU to improve the print industrys productivity and working environment, is to receive 250,000 in funding over 15 months.

The funding, to be provided by the DTI, has been approved by employment relations minister Gerry Sutcliffe. The governments 250,000 will be matched by contributions in kind from the industry.

The project, revealed by BPIF chief executive Michael Johnson at the federations AGM in the summer (PrintWeek, 3 July), is due to begin on 1 November and will end with a joint national launch conference in January 2005.

A review body for the project comprises senior executives from eight BPIF member companies.

Three firms Pindar Set, TJ International and BemroseBooth have also agreed to become involved in partnership case studies for the project.

An independent chair will be appointed by the BPIF and GPMU from six nominees provided by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS).

BPIF director Andrew Brown said that although the federation was involved in several initiatives, which could be a tad confusing to members, it was the BPIFs job to explain the benefits of each of these.

This is a specific timed project which will eventually result in a report, with the outcome that there will be some change from this within the industry, said Brown.
