Lyon received the Outstanding Contribution to the UK Printing Industry award at a House of Commons reception following the federation’s recent members’ day.
“If ever someone deserved this award it’s Nigel. He has done so much and has made an enormous contribution to the sector,” said BPIF chief executive Charles Jarrold. “He gets involved and he gets things done. He’s a great role model for anyone in our industry.”
Lyon said the award had come as “a complete surprise”.
“Charles started describing someone and I suddenly realised it was me,” he said. “I was surprised and honoured. I joined the BPIF after setting up Pinstripe because I thought it was a good idea to be connected with a good trade organisation and they’re one of the best, if not the best. It’s a great network and you meet some very interesting people.”
Lyon has been involved with the BPIF’s Government & Industry Committee for around a decade, and has chaired it for the past eight years.
“It’s a very important committee for us and Nigel plays a key role,” Jarrold added.
A chartered account and turnaround expert by background, Lyon set up Pinstripe Print in 1998 “because an opportunity presented itself”. The Birmingham-based business employs 26 staff and has sales of around £2.5m. The firm provides print and print management services to a wide-range of clients in the public and private sector.
