Working from a converted mill in Chester, BBS was left short on floorspace thanks to a handful of machinery investments made last summer, including a new KAS Mailmaster 565HS envelope inserter and a Ricoh MP C3003 colour laser multifunction printer.

It has also acquired use of a new site in nearby Wrexham, which will be initially used for storage and has allowed BBS to take formerly-outsourced work for one client in-house.

The site was acquired in late January, with the deal finalising around the same time BBS launched Partiallyaddressed.com – a new post-GDPR service allowing mailing campaigns to be sent out using postcodes and geo-demographics rather than personal data.

Sales director Curtis Morgan said: “We have developed this new system where we generate the addresses for our clients when they plug in postcodes. It is accessible through our main site and also on its own page.

“Much of our work involved software development for the mailing sector and this is part of our mission to be innovating all the time. We work with organisations such as Royal Mail, Whistl and Citipost to make sure we are providing great services.

“Thanks to the machines we took on last year, our capabilities have also been increased and we can take on greater capacity with quicker turnaround. Our average run lands around the 15,000 mark, but it can vary greatly up to 100,000 so we want to be able to offer it all.”

BBS’s Chester headquarters are split across two buildings with one dedicated to printing and mailing while the other is focused on the software development side of the business.

While the new Wrexham site is currently only being used for storage and comes mostly under the purview of BBS’s sister company and shredding service Topwood, Curtis said that plans had yet to be confirmed on BBS staff and equipment being transferring into the space as the company grows.

Border Business Systems – named for its proximity to the England/Wales border – currently employs 65 members of staff.
