Lloyds Banking Group also endures and celebrated 250 years with a print run of 15,000 in a style truly fitting to the British book. The final word on Waterloo, a limited edition of 125 copies, however goes to one of the judges: “Waterloo is quite simply one of the best books I have ever seen, the printing and binding were exceptional – stunning.”

It has a dark title but Alive in the Face of Death was a pleasure for the Leeds-based printer, which worked with photographer Rankin. Reproduction of images was paramount, with smooth uncoated Munken Polar 150gsm chosen for text paper. Pages and end papers were printed in four-colour process plus a special metallic Pantone 876 throughout for a run of 2,250 copies. “A fantastic entry,” agreed the judges. “In another year, a winner.”
