BBC's Good Homes title saved from closure by Kelsey Publishing

BBC Magazines' Good Homes magazine has been saved from closure by Kent-based lifestyle magazine and book publisher Kelsey Publishing.

The 11-year-old monthly title which was previously printed by Polestar, will begin its tenure with Kelsey from the August 2009 edition and in the transfer will lose all branding and affiliation with the BBC.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, and Kelsey Publishing was not available for comment at the time of writing, but managing director Steve Wright, said in a statement: "We are delighted to be able to announce the acquisition of this title. Good Homes magazine has an outstanding reputation within the industry and we look forward to incorporating it into our business."

Tupe rules mean that the 17 staff have the option to follow the magazine to Kelsey Publishing.

The magazine had an ABC of 97,725 for the second half of last year - some 23% lower year of year, although the title remained one of the BBC's more widely read magazines in its portfolio.

Peter Phippen, MD of BBC Magazines, said: "We are delighted that following discussions with a number of interested parties, we have found an ideal buyer in Kelsey Publishing. I am confident that this family business will be able to develop the magazine beyond its current remit and I wish them every success."
