The books, entitled Food Friday, will start to ship out today, costing £7.50, with all proceeds going to the charity. A run of 2,000 were printed by Leicester-based printer Chartwell Press and shipped off to Tudor for binding, where they were bound using a Bourg BB3003 perfect binder.
Tudor, which has circa-20 staff and £750,000 turnover, was contacted yesterday by Radio Leicester, which commissioned the book, asking that its reporter, Helen McCarthy, come in this morning to collect the first run of 1,000 books herself.
“They originally phoned yesterday and Ian [Chamberlain, managing director] did a short piece on yesterday’s programme then this morning Helen McCarthy came and did a live interview and went round the factory looking at the books being bound,” said director Lynne Chamberlain.
“She took a boxful away so they could go out and start selling them straight away.”
Chartwell production manager John Collins said he was recommended by publisher Tudor Rose to the BBC Radio Leicester for the job and used his outfit's Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 litho press for the printing. He expects a further order may come in.
"It went very well in a tight deadline, Children in Need is happy, they have the delivery when they wanted, so in a very tight deadline it has gone well," said Collins.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the recently rebranded Tudor offers a range of finishing services.
Chamberlain added: “We started in Leicester in 1992 and have moved out to Wigston as the company grew and are trying to involve customers in coming out and looking around the site and seeing where we can help them improve the service we give to them.”
Children in Need takes place tomorrow (17 November).
