Ipswich, Suffolk-based CMI Print Services adapted Barwell’s existing Cylinder die-cutter and creaser to equip it with foiling capabilities.
The rebuilt device was installed at Barwell’s 465sqm premises in Chessington, Surrey earlier this month. The total investment cost was between £35,000 and £40,000, according to managing director Joe Hill.
Barwell first moved into foiling when it invested in an MK1050YMI-II foiling and die-cutting device last year, which enabled the company to carry out B1-format foiling work.
The business also fitted a mezzanine floor last year as part of a reorganisation of its factory in order to accommodate its new machinery.
“With this investment we can do a lot of the smaller sheet sizes, from A4 up to B3, so the makeready time is cut by half. This machine is ideal for the short-run digital market,” said Hill.
Barwell’s other services include lamination, spot UV varnishing, fold, stitch and trim and mailers. The business is located on the same secure industrial estate as Infinity Finishing, which provides perfect and PUR binding services.
Barwell Print Finishers has 11 staff and is set to take on two more people over the next month. Its customers include trade printers and digital houses.
From the beginning of June the business will extend its opening hours to operate 24 hours a day from Monday to Thursday and for 12 hours on Friday.
