The barn door concept, where two pages on a magazine cover open outwards giving a four page spread, has traditionally required spot glue to hold the door in situ and been printed on separate sheets.
However, Polestar, in conjunction with the Telegraph Media Group, has claimed to have developed a system which cuts costs and reduces waste.
Jeff White, Polestar account director, said that the method could become the way barn doors are produced in the future.
"Through the new method, the cover is printed on a single sheet and slit on press leaving two small areas uncut," he said.
"It is around 10% cheaper than traditional barn doors as it cuts out the complexity of the process and saves on waste."
Barn door 'latch' to save waste and money, claims Polestar
A new "latched" barn door print format has been launched, which is claimed to have reduced the price of the format and cut wastage.
