Barco Graphics has resolved intellectual property issues with RR Donnelley & Sons strategic technology centre by signing an agreement for the licence of Donnelleys variable data imaging method patents.
Yves Van Hauwaert, Barcos vice president of commercial printing, said that several compatible patent technologies had come to light when Barco developed its PrintStreamer product, which uses Barcos own Press Server concept for variable data printing.
The patented techniques encourage the separation of variable data from static data prior to printing.
Barco will have a worldwide licence for the 25 patents although it will only need to use four of them for use in products such as VIPDesigner and VIPLine.
The licensed patents are part of RR Donnelleys family of patented and patent-pending digital print technologies.
